“The Farmhouse sets gold standard in River Market”

Are you familiar with KC Healthy Kids? No? Well, we think it’s time for you to check them out! Since 2005 they have work tirelessly to improve access to affordable fresh food and safe places to walk and play. When our neighborhoods support healthy habits, we are less likely to suffer from obesity, which is linked to Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and poor mental health. They are helping KC shape policies that improve our food system and physical surroundings, and, ultimately, the places where we live, work, learn, and play. And you know what? What better time to start than right now, when we’re kids so that when we grow up, we already have these wonderful habits and resources at our disposal?

One of the new initiatives from KCHK is Carrot Gold, which is setting the standard for excellence in food service. This customizable program lets restaurants like ours alongside grocers, hospitals, colleges and corporations move toward an ideal operating standards in three categories: local food sourcing, sustainable kitchen practices and healthy eating.

We’re very proud to be featured in one of their articles about our commitment and work with their Carrot Gold Standard!

Eat Local, Buy Local, Support Local!

There is no better feeling that the happiness we get when receiving a message from our guests with photos of their own version of our dishes that they made at home.  We got once a photo via Facebook message from a guest who loved our melon salad so much, that before leaving the restaurant they asked us about every farmer we used for that dish & where to find them. Our guest then went to all the farmers market where our farmers would set up & purchased from our same farmers, bought the same awesome ingredients, went home and made the melon salad for their family. That was AWESOME!! It made us SO happy to see that, we are still writing about it 2.5 years later!
You may have seen us use the tags #EatLocal #SupportLocal #ShopLocal #Localvore, etc on our social media posts and we don’t use them just for you to come and join us for a wonderful meal; we want you to do so outside of our doors as well!  That is why we post our list of our farmers on our website and on our chalkboards in our Lounge and Gallery rooms: so you can see where we get our awesome produce and meats, and get the same quality ingredients from the awesome local families we work with, for your own family.

Every month on our newsletter we showcase a local farmer or company we work with. Why? Because we want you to know where the produce and meats that make it to your plate come from. We want you to support your local businesses and keep the wonderful and hardworking families from KS & MO afloat. We want you to be able to get the best quality ingredients not only when you dine with us, but also in your own home.

So, subscribe to our newsletter & get to know your local farmers (plus you’ll get reminders of events, specials & other news at The Farmhouse), go to your local farmers market or join a CSA! Get the best food KC has to offer in your own home!

Reservation Changes Taking Effect on April 1st, 2016.  What you need to know.

Starting on April 1st, The Farmhouse will start working with OpenTable’s partner BrainTree in order to take, in a secure and PCI compliant manner, credit card information for any parties of 10 or more, as well as for any reservation, regardless of the number of guests, on:  Valentines Day, Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers’ Day and New Years Eve.
Our goal is to provide guests the best quality food, beverage and service during their visit, and we have sadly seen an increase in the number of “No Shows” (reservations that are made and not honored without giving a call to notify us of a need to cancel the reservation).  These “No Shows” mean that we are holding tables for guests and thus unable to move along with our pacing of other reservations and walk-ins, for parties that did not show up.  This trend has damaged the perception of our quality of service, and so we will join other restaurants in the area and start charging a “No Show” fee of $25.00.   This fee will be applied to any party that does not cancel their reservation (either by logging into their OT account or by giving us a call and speaking with someone directly) with at least 24 hrs advance notice.  There will be no fees charged for guests who honor their reservation or cancel with 24 hrs advance notice.

Why are you doing this?  We have seen an increasing number of guests who have made reservations with us (and other restaurants) and then either have to cancel or decide to go to another restaurant, without notifying us in advance for their need to cancel their reservation with us.  Thus, other guests have been unable to make a reservation because we have been fully-booked, or our walk-in guests have been unable to be seated because we are still honoring those tables for guests who will not be showing up.  Additionally, holding tables for reservations who “No Show” directly affect our server’s tips, as well as the restaurant’s flow.   We hope this will deter those guests who were not serious about joining us to begin with or those who did not give us proper notice, from taking away seating from guests like you, who want to join us and dine with us, but we’re at full capacity.

How do I cancel a reservation? You can cancel your reservation via OpenTable by logging into your account, and making changes through your upcoming reservations.  You can also cancel your reservation by calling us with at least 24 hours notice at (816) 569-6032 and speaking with someone directly.  Please be sure to speak with someone over the phone, and do not leave a voicemail as we don’t get to check our voicemail daily.  Please remember: We do close at 3:00 Sunday, Monday & Tuesday.

Will I be charged $25.00 every time I make a reservation?  Not at all!! We will only take CC information for any party of 10 or more guests, and for any reservation (regardless of the size) on the five holidays above.  You will not be charged any fee just because you made a reservation! Also, if you cancel your reservation with due notice (24 hours in advance) either by logging into your OpenTable account, or by giving us a call, we will not charge you any fee.  The fees will apply for those “No Show” parties who straight-out do not show up or who do not cancel their reservation with at least 24 hours advance notice.

Ultimately, our goal is to ensure the best service possible for you, whether you are joining us with a planned reservation or impromptu as a walk-in.  We do not want your experience at The Farmhouse to be negatively affected because of a 3rd party.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have in regards to this.

Have you joined our newsletter yet?

Did you know we have a newsletter?  No?  Well, we do!!  And if you are wondering why should you join our newsletter, here are some good reasons (according to us):

  1. We share information about a new farmer that has joined our “farmers board” as well as what we get from them, and where you can find them. You know we love to support our local businesses, and we want you to know where your food comes from, so you can also support these awesome farmers everyday!
  2. Want to know about collaborations and other special events happening outside of The Farmhouse or at The Farmhouse?  Unless you are constantly visiting our social media pages (Even if you “Like” us on Facebook, you may not see our posts due to their algorithm) you may miss out on information regarding an upcoming dinner that we know gets to be so popular that there is only a limited seating.  By having it as an email, you don’t have to worry about missing it out on your thousands of social media posts and then forget about it… until it’s to late.  (Vegan Dinner, or Green Dirt Farms dinner, anyone??)
  3. Wondering about menu changes?  What will happen when? When will the new cocktails be featured?? Which are our monthly or weekly specials? (Beer Buckets on Fridays!!) Again, unless you visit our social media every day, you may be missing out on this fun information!
  4. Are there news happening about our neighborhood?  During the streetcar construction we updated our newsletter recipients with news from the streetcar authority regarding street closures, delays, updates, etc… because it can’t get more local than the neighborhood where you live!
  5. We have sent surveys from time to time to our active newsletter recipients! We want to know what YOU think and we’ll ask for the opinion of active/interactive members.

We know that Facebook does not show all the posts of the pages you follow… so unless you are visiting our page (instead of just scrolling down through your feed), you may miss out on some of this lovely tidbits of what life at The Farmhouse is all about!!  Do we need to say more about why we think it would be great for you to join our newsletter?? We didn’t think so either.  =)

Love,

The Farmhouse
